Leucos takes BDW ’21 | The Evolution of a Classic
During the 16th edition of Barcelona Design Week –the event dedicated to design and creativity- Leucos displays a new exciting collection. MiND talked to the CEO, Abramo Manfrotto, about the evolution of their classic lamp: JJ.
From 7 to 17 June the Italian company specialized in light design and production opens at the Boffi | DePadova showroom in Barcelona displaying the evolution of their JJ family conceived to offer an inspiring range of modern lamps.
As the CEO Abramo Manfrotto explains: “We acquired Leucos in April 2019. The latent residual power behind this brand, which clearly had seen brighter days, and the incredible archive of products, the best of which were designed in the ‘70s and ‘80s, is what most attracted us. As new investors, our core strategy pivots around superior product and production methods.”
"Respecting craftmanship and tradition we will add modernity, efficiency and technology. The technical innovation and the new models we’ve added to the JJ Family is a good indication of that." -CEO, Abramo Manfrotto.
In 2021, Leucos transforms the JJ platform into a scalable system of decorative lamps, introducing a full range of product sizes, and several customizable options.
"The new product families we’re working on, some of which will be released in the next few months, together with the many exciting re-editing opportunities, will further enforce this strategy and will help us take Leucos to its earlier, well deserved splendor." - CEO, Abramo Manfrotto.
The new JJ Grip illuminates the showroom together with JJ BIG. Adjustable, replaceable, dimmable, with chip-on-board led and superior color rendering index, JJ Grip allows different applications (table, floor, wall or ceiling) thanks to the included “Super Clamp” (the iconic piece by ALU, also displayed at the MoMA, which allows you to connect the lamp to a wide range of locations with either round and rectilinear profiles). It can be used with design accessories such as “Autopole” (extendable floor-to-ceiling tension column in anodized aluminum also by ALU) and the “Grip Mount” (wall/ceiling attachment in polished anodized aluminum).
Implementing new solutions with design and sustainability in mind, Leucos perfectly reflects this years’ BDW ’21 slogan, “Think, Design, Act“, echoing what Daan Roosegaarde – Founder and Designer of Studio Roosegaarde in Rotterdam- stressed during his inspiring conference last Monday: “Design is about designing the connections between history and future, function and fantasy, being practical and being dreamy. It’s about designing these missing links, these new links. Move away from linear thinking, think hybrid and collaborate in order to tackle these great challenges we are all facing”.
Barcelona Design Week gives us a view from new and different perspectives and we believe it is a truly eye opening exhibition. If you happen to be in Barcelona, don’t forget to stop by the Boffi | DePadova showroom from 7 -17 June to see Leucos’ Evolution of a Classic. Access is free.
