Just 6 months after Azzedine Alaia’s death, his brand has opened its first store in London. The Maison Alaia London store is the third in the portfolio following two in Paris.
Situated in New Bond Street, the three-level 6,000 sq ft store takes a dominant position with its pink flags waving proudly outside.
The futuristic store has been created by a collection of Alaia’s favourite designers Kris Ruhs and Marc Newson. Ruhs has created the brushed spiral metal and glass staircase as well as the aluminium rod lights that line the walls on all three levels of the store. Newson’s giant donut shape lights, called Flos, are suspended from the ceiling providing and give an industrial feel to the interior. Long ‘cathedral’ tables in burnt orange, designed by Pierre Paulin, are eye-catching.
The structured store interiors complements the brand’s equally structured clothing items.
The opening of the store is also perfectly timed with the designer’s ‘Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier ’ exhibition at the Design Museum in London from May 2018.
