Shops that form part of the offer at petrol stations have come a long way from the days of a few newspapers, some confectionary and the usual array of behind-the-counter tobacco products. And the opening of a new Centra store at a Go station in Cookstown, Northern Ireland, serves to make the point.
Wander into this one and among other things there is food-to-go, prepared meals and fruit and veg presented along the perimeter in a manner that at least equals the offer in a small supermarket. The food to go is prepared in view of visitors to the store’s ‘green kitchen’ and for the most part it cooks up healthy(ish) meals and snacks to stave off the hunger pangs.
All this and a store that looks like a location where deli meets modern convenience store. In total, this is the sort of place that you might visit even if fuel were not part of the deal. Centra is part of Irish food retail group Musgrave.
