Dover Street Market for LA

Dover Street Market, the home of fashion quirkiness, alongside 10 Corso Como, has opened its sixth store, in Los Angeles.

This time, rather than a historic building, the store is on a single level and is a white-washed warehouse which has almost no natural daylight. All of which means it could, if you were unaware, be mistaken for a cold storage unit.

A small logo gives the game away however and once inside this is the usual wonderland of fashion vignettes, headed up by a heavily logoed CDG space containing a collection from Rei Kawakubo’s Comme Des Garcons (she is also the founder and presiding genius behind Dover Street Market).

The store itself is almost totally neutral – which is perhaps just as well, considering the sculptural and frequently brightly-coloured props and display areas across the store. What the store also succeeds in doing is making itself part of the Los Angeles Arts District landscape at a stroke. This is an interesting and probably will prove a much-visited addition to the city’s fashion scene.
