Gucci’s Tokyo Flagship
In spite of being a brand associated with Italy and above all with luxury, one of the premier markets for Gucci is Japan. The designer label has had a store in Tokyo since 1964 and now it has opened a flagship on Namiki-dori Street, the location where it first started its association with the country.
This time round it’s a four-storey affair with visiting currently by appointment and with only the ground and first floor levels operating, until the ‘Gucci apartment’ and a restaurant featuring the talents of a Michelin-starred Italian chef mean that the second and third floors are up and running.
For the moment, therefore, visiting shoppers will be treated to floor-ceiling windows, a mirrored spiral staircase, beautifully worked wooden floors and black metal fixtures, among other things.
Being heavily lit, the whole building, which occupies the whole of a corner, stands out as an extravagant beacon in its neighbourhood. This is a brand that is the current embodiment of luxury.
