Lucid is a car brand that you may not have heard of, but it has a range of options, is manufactured in Arizona and is for the Tesla-driving class who may not wish to drive one of the cars that have generated untold wealth for Mr Musk.

And a showroom aimed at showing the benefits of buying one of these EVs has opened recently in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, with neighbours such as Restoration Hardware and Hermes, as well as a brace of fancy eateries.

The showroom is not about selling and nothing in there can be bought, according to staff, but it is nonetheless about spreading the Lucid message. This is done by showing a very shiny car alongside a table full of computer hardware allowing visitors to design a customised version of what they are looking at.

In total, this is a slick non-retail retail space, in keeping with the machines themselves.
