Marni Makes a Guangzhou Splash
It is pretty much a fact that brands from beyond China’s borders that wish to make a splash in the world’s most populous nation tend to do things with rather more panache (and probably greater expense) than might be the case if they were elsewhere, for the moment at least.
This need to make a mark is reflected in the new pop-up store from Milan-based Marni, in Guangzhou. Located in the K11 mall in the teeming South China metropolis, a haven for designer brands, this temporary retail space is just a stone’s throw from the permanent Marni store, which is also in the mall.
And what sets this one apart, other than its mid-mall shape, which is intended to remind the onlooker of a dining car, is its colour. For the most part, this is overwhelmingly warm gold/yellow and little expense has been spared on creating both the interior and the exterior.
The store will be in place until July 7th.
