Neiman Marcus, the Hudson Yards anchor
Following on from yesterday, it’s worth taking a quick stroll through the Neiman Marcus store that anchors Hudson Yards, the newest retail destination in New York. Opened on Friday and with three floors spanning 188,000 sq ft, this is the Texan department store retailer’s first foray in the Big Apple and everything from a gallery-load of artwork (there’s even a Roy Lichtenstein artwork as part of the store’s displays) to fitting room tech that helps the shopper to work out what to buy when in the fitting room, has been incorporated.
In a city where luxury department stores are the norm, rather than the exception, it is a brave retailer that opts to open a completely new emporium, but Neiman Marcus joins Nordstrom, which opened a men’s department store in late 2018, in doing so. And as shoppers enter the store there are ‘intuitive’ digital directories (whatever this may mean), to assist in the process of finding the right area of the shop to head to.
Neiman Marcus is right up there at the top of the tree when it comes to the disposable income of its customer and this store confirms that this is the case.
