Nordstrom Puts Down Another US East Coast Marker
Seattle-based department store operator Nordstrom has opened a second store in Connecticut, on the other side of the country, as it readies itself for the flagship that will welcome its first shoppers in New York City in a few weeks.
The latest addition to its portfolio is a 140,000 sq ft store on three levels in the newly-opened SoNo Collection mall in Norwalk and while it will not have all the bells and whistles that will be afforded to visitors to the Big Apple store, it does offer a service offer which is new to Nordstrom. Called ‘Express Service’, this is a 2,700 sq ft space where shoppers can collect and try on online orders and access the in-store tailoring and alterations service, all in one place. There is nothing remarkable about this perhaps, other than that Nordstrom has an eye to its online future by grouping these elements together.
The store also features the retailer’s latest beauty concept: Nordstrom Beauty Haven.
From a design perspective, there is more natural light, lighter fixturing and a greater number of windows than in previous Nordstrom full-line stores.
