RH Packs ‘em in in the Meatpacking District
At a time when many are considering whether they should close a few stores, the idea of opening a 60,000 sq ft, multi-floor furniture emporium might be seen as folly by some, but RH is an exception to the prevailing ethos.
Restoration Hardware, or RH as it has now opted to style itself, is an upscale affair and those entering the doors of its newly-opened flagship, it’s largest to date, in New York’s Meatpacking District, will need deep pockets.
The store features the usual glamorous atrium that has characterised a number of its recent openings and a design studio where those wishing to develop an interior theme for their homes can do so with advice from in-store (sorry, ‘gallery’, RH doesn’t do ‘stores’) stylists.
Rather more to the point are the multiple roomsets, all of which wouldn’t look out of place in a Five Star boutique hotel, which explains both the price strategy and the very fashionable location. It’s like an IKEA for the very posh.
RH defies current thinking perhaps by being at the top end of the interiors tree, where cash may be a little more disposable than lower down the feeding chain. And if all else fails, there is the inevitable rooftop restaurant.
