IGA Supermarkets’ Summer Hill store, in the inner-city suburbs of Sydney, has undergone a makeover, creating a modern fresh food market.
Created by Loopcreative, the 2000 sq m store is a European inspired food hall with a cheese room, butcher, dry-ageing room, delicatessen, bakery and a fishmonger, alongside a fresh produce marketplace.
The smaller chain is taking on the large supermarket chains using design to portray authenticity, provenance, and quality of products.
Gone are the white walls and fluoro lighting and in their place are wooden-style flooring and dark brown walls with black spotlights. The directional signage uses a modern font with black and wooden signs. The produce is also stacked high to emphasize the freshness.
It’s a design formula for many supermarkets but has been done well in this instance.
