The World’s largest Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Chicago
Tomorrow sees the opening of the last Starbucks Reserve Roastery and it will be in Chicago. And at 35,000 sq ft. and with four floors it will also be the biggest of its kind (there are five others dotted around North America, Europe and Asia) with six different types of coffee preparation on offer, as well as a bar and another space for the Milan-based Princi Bakery.
In its previous life, this was the jewel in the crown for US homeware retailer Crate & Barrel and Starbucks has kept the exterior of this 1990s building pretty much intact. Within, however, it now boasts the first curving escalator in the Midwest, which wraps around a 56 ft-high ‘cask’ (aka a perforated metal tower containing tube through which coffee beans pass) at the heart of the store.
Even if you don’t particularly like coffee, this is likely to be something of a destination and it will do much to give Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, on which it is located, a shot in the arm.
